Well look at that. On the same day it seemed Days of Our Lives was killing off one of its characters (or at least part of one), the show also teased two pretty major returns. And it’s all thanks to Leo!
The gossip columnist bemoaned losing both Gwen and Dimitri to Chad today (you can read the full recap here) as he noted it was their wedding anniversary. It wasn’t a happy occasion, of course, seeing as how the whole thing was a sham that destroyed friendships and upended lives, but that was kind of the point for Leo.
He missed Gwen and Dimitri, and was feeling a decided lack of closure. We pondered that Theresa’s life blowing up may prompt Gwen’s return… but it seems like that may only be the beginning. Because Leo didn’t just mention Gwen in passing or in a roundabout way that avoided saying her name as the show’s done so often in the months that Theresa was running around.
He mentioned “Gwen Rizczech” by her full name, and went through everything that went down between him, his bestie and Dimitri. And then, at the end of the episode, Leo even tried calling her (only to be told to go to hell).
It all smacks of the show reminding us of who Gwen is as it prepares to bring her back. And that would make sense if Theresa’s done and Emily O’Brien is still on contract. But the episode didn’t stop there, with Leo getting into Dimitri as well.
He voiced what we’ve long felt, that Dimitri’s breakup letter felt fake. And if it was fake — or if, at the very least, Dimitri lied in it — what’s the truth? It doesn’t seem random that the show mentioned this. Why would they set up a mystery, even if just a small one, if they didn’t intend to solve it?
All of this felt very pointed as the show seemed to tease that soon enough, we won’t just be getting Gwen back, but Dimitri as well. Maybe they’ll shock us all and return together, reunited, as Leo fears, so that Dimitri can get his money back. Maybe Gwen will return victorious, divorced and with Dimitri’s fortune, pushing him to fly back to Salem to get it back.
Yeah, he is still in prison, even if he made it out of the supermax hole Sloan had him thrown into. And that could make his return complicated. But not necessarily. Both he and mom Megan have slipped the long arm of the law before. As has half of Salem. There’s always a reason to spring characters and we’re sure Dimitri is no different.
So after Leo made such a big point about noting Gwen and Dimitri’s one year wedding anniversary, it seems all but inevitable that we’ll see Emily O’Brien ditching Theresa’s wig for Gwen’s natural locks and Peter Porte bringing Dimitri back to the DiMera mansion once again.
We’re sure that’s the last thing his family would want, but it would sure make things interesting. Gabi and Stefan are back together (you know, the ones he tried to shoot) and EJ is heading down a dark path with Nicole leaving him — thanks, in no small part, to Dimitri handing Jude over to Sloan!
