It’s been nearly a year since General Hospital’s Eden McCoy (Josslyn) shared the news with family, friends and loved ones that her mom Natasha had passed away after a two-and-a-half year battle with cancer. And yes, time may heal all wounds, but grief doesn’t lessen in a straight line, nor does it ever truly vanish. It is, however, tempered over time as it’s softened by the happy, loving memories that we’ll always cherish.

This year, McCoy was kind enough to share photos and notes from her mother as the actress wished her a happy heavenly birthday. And it couldn’t be more clear how much her mom loved her, and how much wisdom she imparted with that love.

“Not a day goes by,” she wrote. “If there’s one thing I can say, it’s keep your cards. Happy birthday, mom.”

Laura Wright (Carly) was right there to offer her TV daughter support, writing, “I love you. So, so much,” while fans offered love, sympathies and birthday wishes of their own. And more than a few opened up about their own grief and loss, with some additional advice.

Fan Sirrap Arrom thanked McCoy for sharing the day and the memories, “How kind for you to share her wise and wonderful words with all of your followers.”

Deneen Holma Alvarez, meanwhile, was among those who understood the grief, love and happy memories from personal experience. “I’ve lost my mom as well,” she wrote. “It’s a deep and different kind of loss than most others. Sending you comfort.” And Rachel Judkins mentioned keeping voicemails, as well as cards and notes, writing, “I found one of my mom wishing me a merry Christmas. I’ll be listening to that this Christmas.”

Our families and our losses are intensely personal, but sometimes it can help to know that we aren’t alone when going through difficult times. Happy Birthday, Natasha, and our hearts and our thoughts are with McCoy and her family.
