Don’t blow it, Young & Restless. That’s all we can say. You’ve got the pieces on the chessboard perfectly positioned to pull off an exquisitely satisfying move. All you have to do is let the game play itself out in logical soap fashion. Do that, and it will be epic. Here’s why.
Fight Club
Kyle and Summer aren’t just headed for a custody battle over Harrison, they are racing toward one. And it’s gonna be ugly, too, with him reminding her at every turn that she isn’t Harrison’s biological mother and Phyllis kibitzing from the sidelines. (She really needs a new storyline.)
In court, Summer will remind the judge that Kyle once appeared on GC Buzz in his birthday suit — a model, yes, but a model parent? What’s more, he cheated on her with Audra, pulling the plug on a marriage that was already on life support.
In turn, Kyle will regale the judge with the story of how Summer once coerced him into marriage by threatening to withhold a life-saving organ donation from his then-girlfriend, Lola. He might also bring up Summer’s seduction of Billy just to hurt his then-lover, Phyllis. If Summer could behave that way toward her mom, of all people, what might she do to Harrison?
‘Sorry I’m Late’
Just as the judge is about to rule as to whether Kyle or Summer gets primary custody of Harrison, into the courtroom comes — but of course — Tara, now played by someone with the fire to truly bring the character to life. (We’re hoping for General Hospital vet Sarah Joy Brown.) “Did you forget I exist?” she asks.
It will turn out that, as angry as Diane is with her son for teaming up with Victor at Glissade, she didn’t want to see him lose custody of Harrison. She knows all too well what it’s like to be away from one’s child for a long period. So she pulled some strings and got Tara sprung early from prison.
Diane’s logic: No way would the judge award Summer primary custody when Tara is free and clear to share it with Kyle. As an added bonus, having Tara running around Genoa City would royally tick off Phyllis!
There’s just one problem: Tara will want to secure her place in the lap of luxury. If she can’t do that by enticing Kyle back into her bed, she’ll make it her mission to seduce Jack! So, in essence, Diane will have accidentally pointed a loaded gun at her own marriage!
