The Bold and the Beautiful: All About Tom Arnold Opens Up About Soaring Debut
Tom Arnold is gearing up for his debut on The Bold and Beautiful as Captain Deuce Stevens. He’ll be the Forresters’ pilot, flying Brooke, Ridge, and Steffy to Monte Carlo. But how did he land this role? This chance came from his long-time friendship with the show’s head writer and executive producer, Bradley Bell. Tom recalls how Brad, whom he’s known for over twenty-five years, casually extended the invitation. Please continue reading to hear what Tom has to say about his experience!
Tom Arnold Lands Role on B&B
Tom was skeptical about the brief shooting schedule of The Bold and the Beautiful. But he quickly agreed once he learned he would be playing a pilot named Deuce. On his first day, Tom felt the jitters. However, finding a reserved parking spot, a perk he greatly values at his age, eased his nerves. Now let’s talk about this funny incident.
As Arnold headed to make up, he met Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) but didn’t recognize him. Thorsten, looking like an ordinary crew member, politely fetched a sugar-free Red Bull for Tom. Only later did he discover Thorsten was a leading actor on the show. Moreover, the show’s efficient production blew away the soap vet.
Arnold commended the professionalism and talent of the B&B cast and crew. He also noted their ability to produce a high volume of episodes with remarkable speed and quality. The soap star couldn’t help but compare it to his time on “Roseanne,” where twenty-five episodes a year seemed overwhelming. So, he marvelled at B&B producing 260 episodes annually.
In addition, the legendary actor was particularly impressed by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood‘s (Steffy) comedic timing. In one scene, she flawlessly executed a physical comedy bit by tossing items from her purse. She landed them perfectly on Tom’s head. Her skill reminded the actor of Lucille Ball. Reflecting on his past, Tom fondly recalled his stint on General Hospital in 1994.
He reminisced about the awe of seeing familiar faces from his favorite soap operas and cherished the entire experience. To freeze the moment, Tom even took home a star from his dressing room door as a memento. It now amuses his kids with the show’s stories. Furthermore, his children poke fun at him for not being as young and beautiful as he once was.
To which he retorts, “You cannot be on this show, guys, unless you are both bold and beautiful!” Interestingly, Arnold has one special request for Bradley Bell: a custom-made pilot’s hat to accommodate his “giant head.”
