Although Michael Easton recently said goodbye to General Hospital after 12 years on the show, the actor recently sat down with GH co-star Maurice Benard and took him through his journey on soap operas.

Difficult Days

During his State of Mind debut, Easton discussed his start in acting and revealed the first soap opera he landed a role on was Days of Our Lives. “At DAYS… I got fired,” Easton revealed, admitting he was “difficult” while portraying Tanner from 1991-1992. “I don’t blame them for firing me, I would have fired me, too.”

Easton talked about a decade of starring on TV series that always wound up canceled before finally ending up back in the soap world. “Come and do a 10-week arc on Port Charles,” he recalled being told. When Easton asked what part he would be playing, he was told he had to sign the contract before finding out his role. “He’s a priest, who’s got a twin brother who’s a vampire, and it’s going to turn out they’re really just one character,” Easton remembered of Caleb Morley, who he played on the show for two seasons. “I literally got up and walked out,” he admitted before saying the show pulled it off.

Life On One Life

One Life To Live brought Easton back to New York, where he played John McBain for nearly a decade until the show’s cancellation in 2012. “I would still be there,” he admitted, remembering he got married and had his daughter in the city.

“You’re doing some really great work on General Hospital,” Benard remarked of Easton’s latest portrayal of Finn. The actor previously played OLTL’s McBain, Silas, and Caleb on GH since joining the show in 2012.

“I have a great affinity for Gregory Harrison,” Easton went on about his TV dad, revealing Harrison filled a void for him after his father passed away 13 years ago. “He just levels me when I talk to him,” he continued, referring to Harrison as a “surfer dude.”
