It’s been over a month and a half since we’ve seen John on Days of Our Lives. After Konstantin was put in the ground and his machinations ended, John decided he needed to seek forgiveness of some kind by running off to Greece and making peace with what he’d supposedly done to Kon’s daughter. (Check out the recap here.)
That wasn’t a terrible thing, John tried to reassure his wife — he just wanted to get some closure by finding Catharina’s grave. But he wanted to go alone… and that’s almost never good. We haven’t seen him since, though he did call Marlena to let her know when his plane touched down in Greece.
Then, once Steve recovered from being shot at Konstantin and Maggie’s wedding, he decided he should run off to Greece to make sure John was OK. And that was the last we saw of him… until today. Now, Steve’s returned to Salem and John’s nowhere to be found. All that he did find was a bloody note at Catharina’s grave.
And that’s enough to get folks worried all over again that John’s time in Salem may be done. Sending characters out of the country together to investigate something is one thing. That gives the show more of a chance for a “location” shoot. But characters leaving town on their own tend to end up more like Gwen, who’s been off in Europe trying to get Dimitri’s money and was only seen during one brief call about The Spectator.
Though after this week, we do have a feeling Gwen will be back soon. So sending characters away isn’t a surefire sign that they’re gone for good. But Steve’s return is definitely concerning.
The good news is, a reliable backstage source has assured us that Drake Hogestyn is still on contract and neither he, nor John are going anywhere. That doesn’t mean that he’s in good shape, though. The fact is, he still vanished. And that blood makes it all but certain there’s been foul play. To be fair, though, that’s nothing new to superspy John Black.
Hopefully, we finally find out what happened to him soon, but don’t be surprised if he’s back home, filling his family in on his adventures before we know it.
