If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that being a soap opera actor is not easy — especially on a show that’s as fast-paced in its filming as Days of Our Lives. You know what other job isn’t easy? Being a doctor — though for very different reasons and in very different ways! And when you put the two together and have to play a doctor ON a soap opera, that’s a whole new beast!

Mary Beth Evans has been playing Dr. Kayla Johnson for quite a few years at this point, but even she struggles sometimes to get through the technical jargon!

After finishing some scenes, Stephen Nichols (Steve) teased his TV wife on Instagram, noting that, “She had a meltdown with some doctor dialogue.”

“I didn’t melt down,” she chided goodnaturedly. “But I will say this: Thank God that I’m usually so on top of my dialogue. Otherwise they’d say, ‘She’s out! Fired!’ Oh, Gosh. Sometimes I think they think I’m a real doctor. This doctor dialogue — nobody could say it!”

Check out the adorable video below, in which Nichols offers an idea of how to make through these types of scenes going forward. Here’s a hint: It’s got a lot to do with his caption declaring, “I’m TV married to a TV doctor who’s married to a real doctor.”

The couple’s onscreen daughter, Abigail Klein (Stephanie), couldn’t help but chuckle in the comments at Nichols telling Evans to run her dialogue by her real-life husband of nearly 40 years, Dr. Michael Schwartz.

Of course, if this is material that Nichols and Evans just shot, we can’t help but wonder who’s in such dire straits six months from now when these scenes air that Kayla’s going to have such extensive doctor dialogue to get through! Well, we guess Days of Our Lives‘ new writers have got some serious health issues planned for someone in 2025.

But hey, the good news is Evans most definitely wasn’t fired and Kayla and Patch will still be on our screens for some time to come!
