A good boss knows when to delegate responsibility. And a good mob boss knows that’s the best way to stay out of jail. But sometimes, as General Hospital’s Sonny knows all too well, you’ve just got to take matters into your own hands. (Bye-bye, Jagger.) But that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to do so — except for the drama!
Because while the cops are closing in on Alexis after Liz blabbed about seeing her toss a gun in the river, Anna’s not letting her eye off of Sonny for even a second. Just before Diane chased her out, Anna vowed, “I will solve this case.” (You can check out her encounter with Sonny, Jason and Diane in our recap of Monday’s show.)
Of course, Anna doesn’t realize how complicated the case is as Alexis is about to be questioned about the gun she disposed of for Kristina, that was stolen from Sonny… but was not the gun he used to kill Cates. That’s being disposed of by Jason.
The long and the short of it, though, is that Sonny is in some serious trouble. When Maurice Benard hosted Adam Huss (Nikolas) on the most recent episode of his State of Mind vlog, the Emmy winning actor got a bit into Sonny’s mess as he sung the show’s praises.
“The show right now is doing really good,” Benard noted. “It’s good. I shot Jagger, FBI [Agent] Cates. He’s no more. In Sonny’s 31 years, he only shot, I think himself, maybe three people.”
When Huss admitted he was wondering about that, he also referred to Cates’ killing as “pretty bold.”
“Yeah,” Benard agreed, before going a step farther. “That was way too bold. Usually Jason does it or somebody else does it.”
He’s right, of course. Sonny’s a mob boss who rarely gets his own hands dirty. He’s too smart for that. You don’t last long if you do all the killing yourself. But sometimes, when things get TOO personal, he takes matters into his own hands. And it doesn’t always end well.
Because Benard then recalled the last time Sonny took matters into his own hands.
“Oh no, I shot Michael’s dad, too,” he remembered. “AJ. Oh, I shot that dude. That’s right. That was pretty [bleeping] wild. I actually went to prison for that one, I think.”
Sonny’s got Carly backing up his alibi, and Alexis has unwittingly put herself in the cops’ crosshairs. But that can’t last forever. Eventually someone has to figure out what really happened — that or Alexis will be spending the rest of her life in prison.
And while Sonny managed to get out of his last stint in jail for murder without fully serving his sentence, this time, he killed a federal agent. If even Benard thinks the shooting was too bold for his alter ego, we’re seriously worried about what’s ahead. If he’s caught, it doesn’t seem like anything less than an act of God will get him out of jail this time.
