Young & Restless Story Idea for Veterans Shot *All* the Way Down… by Fans: ‘We Are Not Here for That’

On August 13, Soaps shared that Young & Restless vet Beth Maitland and Tracey E. Bregman had been talking about how to get former foes Traci and Lauren back together again in a storyline. Since the Emmy winner had reposted a clip from the characters’ “sassy” days, we even suggested a plot in which Lauren began seeing Alan as a therapist, inadvertently making Traci jealous and kick-starting their old rivalry.

Viewers didn’t just hate the idea, they hated it with a fiery passion. In response to our saying that we were here for the storyline, one fan wrote on our Facebook page that “no, we are not here for that! Lauren is married and they are too old for that nonsense.” Maybe. But we are talking about a show that just had Phyllis and Christine fighting over Danny like he was Shawn Mendes.

“Why would there even be a feud?” asked another poster (perhaps not having read the article, which explained why there would be a feud). “Lauren has Michael and is very happily married!” Uh-huh. And she hasn’t been on the frontburner since.

Yet another reader cried, “Good Lord, are you kidding me? They are both in their 60s. This is ridiculous. Just don’t.” Finally, there came a plea of “Leave them be. No friction. Enough of that already on Young & Restless.”

OK. But what that leaves us with is the show’s often senseless cycling through of mental-health issues (“You get a split personality, and you get OCD, and you get to be bipolar! Who’s next?”) and its endless game of musical CEOs (and if we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times: No one cares who runs these freaking companies!). Those who read the article know that we weren’t suggesting that Traci and Lauren vie for Alan’s affections, only that a little tension with her former sparring partner might bring into the redhead’s life the spark that may be missing from her marriage after all these years.

One thing we can be sure of is that we will not be getting a love story like in the gold old days. This regime seems incapable of or uninterested in writing one. Hell, the most romantic scene we’ve watched in ages was Nick and Sharon’s kiss — and that was only in her head! But hey, at least you won’t have to watch Traci and Lauren revisiting their “sassy days.”
