Maybe you’ve read — if you didn’t, you can catch up here — but we’ve had, let’s say, “issues” with The Young and the Restless’ Victor going after Chancellor Industries. Supposedly, he’s doing it to shore up old friend Katherine’s legacy. But if you ask us, he just wants to stick it to Billy Boy. Further proof that we’re right?
If Victor really gave a damn about Katherine or how her company was run, he wouldn’t be planning to put wife Nikki in charge of Chancellor, he’d be on the phone to her son, Brock. (Being a rat bastard and all, Tucker is out of the question.) There would be a couple of problems with bringing back that character, of course.
First, original portrayer Beau Kazer passed away in 2014. But the show could work around that by recasting. The character hasn’t been seen in more than a decade, and the role would be getting a revamp, anyway. So it could be a terrific opportunity for a much-missed soap vet like Michael Park (Jack, As the World Turns) or Hunt Block (Ben, Guiding Light).
The second problem is that Brock had become a man of God. But that’s not really a problem, is it? Characters change their minds all the time and swap careers on a dime. Look at Nikki, who somehow parlayed a gig as a stripper into an ongoing litany of executive jobs.
Once back in Genoa City, Brock could take over Mom’s company — he is, among other things, a lawyer who’s been running the charitable Chancellor Foundation — give Billy the boot, offer Lily the option to stay or return to Winters, and set about romancing Phyllis, who desperately needs something to do besides meddle in her children’s lives.
What do you think? Isn’t this a more sensible approach for Victor to take to Chancellor than staging a messy hostile takeover?
